AMD processor is our first choice for number of reasons. First, intel processors are relatively high price compare to its equivalent AMD processors. Second, AMD processors are able to compete head to head with intel. Third, intel changes their socket frequently every time they launch new processors and AMD stick to their socket that makes it easier for us to upgrade.

In the case of the new socket AM3+ Zambezi processors, this is backward compatible to older AM3 board with a simple CMOS upgrade will do.

With the release of the new Bulldozer processor recently we have a new beast on the loose. AMD introduced two of the best Octa core processor, they are in the form of FX-8120 and FX-8150. The 8120 runs at 3.1GHz base clock with maximum turbo boost capacity of 4.0GHz and the 8150 has a frequency of 3.6GHz with a maximum turbo boost of 4.2GHz.

The price difference for these two processors is $40 with 500MHz speed apart. If you’re looking for the best AMD processor up to date you better go for the FX-8150, the price it offer is worthy and far cheaper than Intel’s Quad core Sandy Bridge 2600K.

Other two Zambezi processors available are Hex core FX-6100 and Quad core FX-4100, but I guess this is not a wise upgrade if you still have in possession of the Phenom II X6.

Socket AM3 Processors

If you’re craving for speed the AMD Phenom X6 is definitely the best choice. Prices are close enough with almost AMD processors therefore you can’t go wrong with Phenom X6.

Available AMD Phenom X6 processors are 1055T 2.8GHz, 1075T 3.0GHz while the 1090T 3.2 GHz and the 1100T 3.3 GHz are Black Edition having unlock cores for overclocking purposes.

If you’re into overclocking to put an additional speed go for the 1090T and 1100T, if not, the 1055T is a better choice to save you more bucks.
